Music
Music courses provide the opportunity for all students to develop their musical abilities. Music is a cross-cultural medium and plays significant roles in the social, cultural, aesthetic, and spiritual lives of people. Through the study of music, students develop a sense of expression and use it as a medium for sharing ideas, feelings, and experiences.

What will students learn about in Music?
The study of Music at Liverpool Girls High School is creative and inspiring. At the individual level, music is a medium of personal expression. It enables the sharing of ideas, feelings, and experiences. In both the mandatory and elective courses, our students develop knowledge, understanding, and skills in concepts of music (duration, pitch, dynamics, and expressive techniques, tone colour, texture, and structure) through the learning experiences of performing, composing, and listening. This occurs within the context of a range of styles, periods, and genres.
The mandatory course requires students to work in a broad range of musical contexts, including exposure to art music and music that represents the diversity of Australian culture.
In the elective courses, the learning is sequentially built from the Mandatory course and is designed for students who wish to extend their musical experiences and learning. The stage 5 (year 9 & 10) course requires students to study the compulsory topic Australian Music, as well as a number of optional topics that represent a broad range of musical styles, periods, and genres.
In the HSC Music 1 course, students are provided with the opportunity to acquire knowledge, skills, and experiences and to emerge as musically sensitive and capable individuals with the capacity and desire for music to play a significant and continually developing role in their lives.
